Vojvodina Tour – 1 day tour

Date: Sunday, August 23, 2020 or Monday, August 24, 2020
Price: 52 € per person

This is the perfect tour to get acquainted with Serbia’s northern province.
We will show you its three different faces – a medieval monastery, a baroque small town, and its charming metropolis, followed by a lunch that shows Vojvodina’s diverse heritage.
First stop – the famous Serb Orthodox monastery of Krušedol. Established in the early 16th century by the last dynasty of medieval Serbia, the Brankovićs, for centuries it served as a burial church for the most illustrious Serbs of the Habsburg Empire – patriarchs, dukes and even an exiled king.
Second stop – Sremski Karlovci, a historic townlet known for its baroque churches and excellent wine. Today quiet and provincial, for over two centuries the town was an unofficial capital of Serbs in the Habsburg Empire and as a result the town center boasts several nice palaces and churches, including the grand Orthodox Cathedral.
Third stop – the Petrovaradin Fortress, nestled in the cliffs of a steep hill above the Danube, fortified by the Habsburgs for over a century to make it their strongest point of defense against the Turks. On the other side of the river spreads Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina.
Full of impressions, we head back to Belgrade where we will arrive in late afternoon.

Knez Mihajlova Street – The pedestrian zone and center are under protection as one of the oldest and most valuable city areas. Numerous monuments, remarkable buildings and private houses were built around 1870.
Republic Square – The area covering the present Republic square was uninhabited until 1835, spreading behind Stambol gate. After the gate had been demolished, the construction material was used for building a number of houses in the square, including National Theatre, in 1869.
Kalemegdan – Belgrade fortress is the most important cultural-historical complex in the city, standing above the Sava-Danube confluence. Several monuments to prominent cultural & public life figures have been erected in the park.
Princess Ljubica’s residence – Built in 1831, it has been preserved to the present day as the most representative example of urban architecture of its period. It shows all the characteristics of oriental building techniques, the so-called Serbian Balkan style.
The Saborna crkva Orthodox Cathedral designed by Franc Janke in the classicism style, its construction was finished in 1840, with the help from the state and from Prince Milos Obrenovic. This is one of the most beautiful and richly decorated churches in Belgrade.

The Ilic-Nijemčevic Winery
The vineyards of the IN Winery are located on a picturesque hilltop, at the northernmost tip of the country, where the wine history goes back to year 236, when ancient Romans planted the first vines in their provinces.
