Vojvodina Tour – 1 day tour

Date: Sunday, August 23, 2020 or Monday, August 24, 2020
Price: 52 € per person

This is the perfect tour to get aquainted with Serbia’s northern province. We will show you its three different faces – a medieval monastery, a baroque small town, and its charming metropolis, followed by a lunch that shows Vojvodina’s diverse heritage.
First stop – the famous Serb Orthodox monastery of Krušedol. Established in the early 16th century by the last dynasty of medieval Serbia, the Brankovićs, for centuries it served as a burial church for the most illustrious Serbs of the Habsburg Empire – patriarchs, dukes and even an exiled king.
Second stop – Sremski Karlovci, a historic townlet known for its baroque churches and excellent wine. Today quiet and provincial, for over two centuries the town was an unofficial capital of Serbs in the Habsburg Empire and as a result the town center boasts several nice palaces and churches, including the grand Orthodox Cathedral. After sightseeing, we continue to a local wine cellar where you will be treated to a tour with wine tasting of bermet, the much-cherished specialty of Sremski Karlovci, which spread its fame to Vienna and beyond.
Third stop – the Petrovaradin Fortress, nestles in the cliffs of a steep hill above the Danube, fortified by the Habsburgs for over a century in order to make it their strongest point of defense against the Turks. On the other side of the river spreads Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina. Full of impressions, we head back to Belgrade where we will arrive in late afternoon.

Atop the forested Oplenac hill sits one of the nicest sights in all of Serbia – the mausoleum church of the Karadjordjević royal house. From the outside the five-domed church is covered in shiny white marble while inside of it visitors admire hundreds of scenes done in mosaics, all of them copies from medieval Serbian monasteries. In its crypt we will see more mosaics as well as graves of 25 members of the Karadjordjević dynasty.
This will be followed by a wine tasting at the Royal Winery. The equipment from the royal time became part of the museum setting. After wine tasting, we will visit the cave of Risovaca. Lunch will be served at Karadjordjev Vajat, an ethno-restaurant located in the historic village of Orašac, where the 1804 insurrection started.
